WHALE SHARK + KENAWA ISLAND + MATA JITU WATERFALL

  • 17-19 December 2025

  • 3D2N

  • Start from Mataram, Lombok

Start from:

FREEDIVE: IDR 3.550K

SCUBA DIVE: IDR 4.400K

DIVE SPOT: WHALE SHARK TELUK SALEH

Scuba or freediving with whale sharks in the waters of Teluk Saleh, Sumbawa. Swimming alongside these gentle giants is more than just an activity—it’s a profound, once-in-a-lifetime encounter. Only a few places in the world offer such a rare and magical opportunity.

  • Teluk Saleh is a nutrient-rich bay that attracts abundant plankton and small fish—the primary diet of whale sharks.
  • The whale shark (Rhincodon typus), the largest fish in the world, can grow up to 12–14 meters long, yet it is a filter feeder, not a predator.
  • The distinctive spot patterns on a whale shark’s skin are unique like human fingerprints, allowing scientists to identify and track individuals within the population.
  • Studies show that whale sharks often gather in areas with a consistent food supply, such as around fishing platforms (bagan), where light attracts plankton at night.
  • The bay is also home to spinner dolphins and mobula rays, which follow upwelling currents as part of their migration routes.

KENAWA ISLAND

Kenawa Island is a small paradise that looks as if it were taken from a painting—with golden savanna hills, crystal-clear waters, and a breathtaking sunrise that captivates anyone who witnesses it.

  • Kenawa Island features vast savanna landscapes and is surrounded by shallow waters that serve as a habitat for various species of both hard and soft corals.
  • Several small reef fish—such as damselfish and clownfish—defend their territories with surprisingly aggressive behavior despite their size, demonstrating site fidelity, a strong attachment to specific locations.
  • The seagrass beds around the island support the presence of green sea turtles and numerous juvenile fish, functioning as a natural nursery area for many marine species.

MATA JITU WATERFALL

Mata Jitu Waterfall, the hidden gem of Moyo Island, famed for its tiered turquoise pools. The soothing sound of flowing water, lush green forest, and serene tropical ambiance make it the perfect oasis to refresh both body and soul.

  • Mata Jitu Waterfall lies within a pristine tropical forest inhabited by endemic fauna of Sumbawa and the Nusa Tenggara region.
  • Moyo Island is a habitat for the Timor deer (Rusa timorensis), a mammal that plays an important ecological role in controlling vegetation and providing food for natural predators.
  • Endemic birds such as the yellow-crested cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea) can also be found here; this critically endangered species relies on primary forest for nesting.
  • The ecosystem surrounding the waterfall is rich in microorganisms and mosses that contribute to the formation of travertine, a calcium carbonate rock that gives the waterfall’s terraces their layered structure and distinctive color.
